Next up on our National Park challenge is the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in Wales. This is the only fully coastal National Park in Britain and supposed to be a great place to spot seabirds, seals, dolphins and basking sharks - cool! You can also try some pretty adventurous water sports here, including sea kayaking, kitesurfing and coasteering. I had to look up the last one, and in case you haven't heard of it either, it's a mad activity that encompasses scrambling over rocks, flinging yourself into the sea and swimming around in some unusual locations. It sounds incredibly dangerous, if you ask me, but is billed as an activity for children aged 8 years and up so surely can't be that bad...
Whilst I'd love to get out in our kayak because it's a great way to get close to water-based wildlife, I'm not mad keen on being cold, and being wet in the winter is a sure-fire way to be cold! So, we've decided to focus on spotting wildlife on this trip but from the land instead. I want to experience something in each National Park that makes that place special, so we have set ourselves the challenge of finding seals and otters. Not knowing where to start, I tweeted Visit Pembrokeshire (www.visitpembrokeshire.com) to ask the best places to spot them in February. They helpfully suggested Bosherston Lakes for otters and the northern coast from St Davids or a boat trip to Ramsey for seals. Time to start researching both locations...I'll let you know what I find out.
